David Charles

David is Ark’s inaugural Fund Manager, leading the establishment and launch of Ark’s Bedrock Mortgage Fund after joining us as interim CFO in 2023.

As a career finance leader with a passion for real estate, David infuses his 35+ years’ experience across numerous sectors into his work at Ark. Since 2008, he’s specialised in property investment and funds management, notably spending 10 years as CFO and then CEO and Managing Director of ASX listed REITs Redcape Hotel Group and Hotel Property Investments (HPI). 

With a career spanning different roles in both Australia and the UK, David has enjoyed working with leading brands such as Touche Ross, KPMG, Citibank NA, Coles Group, Ansett Australia, ANZ Bank and Redcape. His expertise in accounting, auditing, banking and financial operations makes him an incredible asset to the team at Ark Capital.  

David is a very risk focused, hands-on operator with an ‘in the detail’ style of management and leadership.  In his role as Bedrock Fund Manager at Ark Capital, he leverages the detailed, analytical experience from his past to deliver Ark’s Bedrock fund investors with market leading, risk weighted returns from a carefully constructed and calibrated portfolio of mortgage-secured investments. 

David qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
